Twelve years have passed since the conclusion of the Twilight film saga, an adaptation of the popular series of dark fantasy novels by Stephenie Meyer. The fandom, however, is still more alive than ever and is only waiting for the revival of the franchise, which will arrive soon with the new TV series produced by Lionsgate. After some time, however, there are still numerous passages of the story that remain controversial, one above all the ambiguous relationship between two beloved characters: Jacob Black, the best friend of the protagonist Bella, and Renesmee Cullen, the daughter of Bella herself and the vampire Edward.

In fact, there is a magical bond between the two that even at the time had raised more than one eyebrow. It all begins when Jacob, who is actually a werewolf, develops the so-called imprinting on the child since she is still in the womb. In the Twilight universe, this completely involuntary process is a typical characteristic of werewolves and consists of the creation of a spiritual bond through which the animal recognizes its soul mate, to whom from that moment it is completely devoted. This unleashes the fury of the child's parents, and especially of Bella who has a violent argument with her friend. From that moment on, however, Jacob completely forgets the feeling he had for her and acts as a friend, older brother, and protector exclusively of Renesmee.

The fact itself, justified by the author with a magical, instinctive, and involuntary explanation, has been generally accepted by Twilight fans if it were not for a scene in the epilogue of Breaking Dawn - Part 2 that makes the bond between the two characters even more ambiguous. Alice and Edward have a vision of the future, in which they see Jacob and a now adult Renesmee in a very tender attitude, with her resting her head on his shoulder. Later, Bella and Edward arrive to greet and hug their daughter. Although it doesn't actually confirm anything, the scene seems to suggest a possible romantic twist for the couple.

Imprinting is not romantic in itself, but it very often has this outcome: the vision seems to predict that the two will become lovers, once the girl has grown up. Years later, this remains one of the most controversial elements of the saga: today many critics of the series almost associate it with violence, given that Renesmee has never had the opportunity to choose her partner, who was assigned to her practically at birth. Not to mention, of course, the large age difference between the two (despite her being a vampire who grows twice as fast as normal...). What do you think? Do you agree with these criticisms or have you always supported this couple from the Twilight saga? Tell us your opinion in the comments!
