Sophie Turner, famous for her role as Sansa Stark in the television series Game of Thrones, will be the new Lara Croft in the Amazon series Tomb Raider, a project developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag). This news has ignited the enthusiasm of fans of the saga, who await a new interpretation of the famous British adventurer after the films starring Angelina Jolie in the 2000s and Alicia Vikander in 2018. The series marks Lara Croft's entry onto the small screen (at least in live-action format, as an anime series already exists) and promises to delve into the character's psychology and past, outlining new nuances of her character.

Turner's arrival as Lara Croft seems like an interesting and innovative combination. The actress, in fact, has shown that she can play complex roles with great emotional depth, making her an ideal choice to explore Lara's internal conflicts, torn between her thirst for adventure and the search for her place in the world. Variety reports that the deal between the actress and Amazon is not yet completely concluded, but it is expected that it will be soon.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for her work on series such as Fleabag and for her ability to write complex female characters, will be the writer and producer of the series. This collaboration between Turner and Waller-Bridge could lead to a modern and more introspective reinterpretation of the character, capable of also describing Lara's vulnerabilities and insecurities. The announcement is significant for the Tomb Raider franchise, a global phenomenon born in 1996 with the first video game that made Lara Croft a pop culture icon.

The series could mark a moment of rebirth for the saga, allowing viewers to discover previously unseen aspects of the character and follow her in a serial format that allows for greater narrative development. Sophie Turner has an ambitious task: to pay homage to an iconic character, renewing it and giving life to Lara Croft who not only faces physical adventures but also deep emotional challenges, in line with the modern and complex portrait of female heroes that Waller-Bridge loves to bring to the screen.
