Time Cut tells the story of Lucy (played by Madison Bailey) who returns to 2003 to try to save her sister Summer (Antonia Gentry) and her friends from a serial killer called “Sweetly Slasher”. To realistically recreate the turn-of-the-millennium setting, the production moved to various locations in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Filmed during the summer of 2021, the film used the urban and rural landscape of Canada to transport audiences back to 2003.
Time Cut was filmed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Most of the filming for Time Cut took place in Winnipeg, the capital of Manitoba. The city is known for its wide streets, suburban views, and timeless structures, making it a popular film location. In particular, Portage Place Mall played a central role in the film, where the first “Sweetly Slasher” murders take place. The mall, with its iconic clock, evokes a Back to the Future vibe, another famous time-travel film, and serves as the backdrop for one of the film’s most intense and nostalgic scenes.
In addition to the set design, the mall was decorated to evoke the early 2000s, with details such as inflatable furniture and CDs, symbols of the era.
Stonewall, Manitoba, Canada
The production company Time Cut chose Collège Stonewall Collegiate in Stonewall, Manitoba, as the location for Sweetly High School, the school attended by the main characters in the film. During filming, the crew had unrestricted access to the campus, as the film was shot during summer vacation. Stonewall Collegiate is no stranger to filmmaking, having hosted other productions, including Winner and Silent Night. The facility was also retrofitted with 2000s details, including references to the fashion and technology of the time.

Selkirk, Manitoba, Canada
Some of the most important scenes in Time Cut were filmed on the Selkirk Drawbridge, a blue steel structure located on the Red River. Its rusty, metallic appearance becomes a sort of symbol of Lucy's return to the past, a physical and temporal passage to 2003. Being outdoors, filming on the bridge also gave the crew a moment of respite from the strict safety measures and health protocols imposed by COVID-19 that characterized the production.

Overall, the choice of Canadian locations for Time Cut was aimed at creating a strong connection with the early 2000s. The production worked to reconstruct 2003 in detail, through sets, costumes, and cultural references. Elements such as the use of CDs, period furniture, and even hairstyles, refer to a culture that marked the adolescence of many viewers.
