A complex and suspenseful story, which according to some would already be «the best Netflix series of 2024» Before being swallowed up by the incredible hype for the Tyson vs. Paul match, a new TV series quickly made its way to the top of the Netflix most-watched ranking. And it is a truly unexpected new entry: the Thai drama Don't Come Home. Advertised as a horror-thriller, the work directed by Woottidanai Intarakaset begins as a typical paranormal horror, and then surprisingly mixes a variety of narrative genres and themes, including the paranormal, parent-child relationships, domestic violence, and mourning.
In its six episodes of about 50 minutes, the series available on Netflix tells the story of the mysterious disappearance of a young girl named Min (Ploypaphas Fonkaewsiwaporn). When Min and her mother Varee (Woranuch Bhirombhakdi) return to her childhood home, strange paranormal events begin to appear around them. One day, Min disappears and Detective Fah (Pitchapa Phanthumchinda) is called in to investigate. However, Fah becomes more emotionally involved in the case than she would like, which begins to complicate the resolution of the case. Soon, hidden secrets from Varee’s family’s past begin to emerge, leading to a shocking conclusion.
The director, who also wrote the screenplay with Aummaraporn Phandinthong, revealed that his goal was to tell a complex and suspenseful story that would keep the audience on the edge of their seats and give viewers something completely unexpected. In particular, he wanted to break the traditional boundaries of Thai dramas and show a horror and drama story from the perspective of two strong female characters. And it seems that the goal has been reached, judging by the comments of Netflix viewers.
"I just finished watching the series, it shocked me! To make you understand how complex it is, each episode seems to take the narrative towards a different genre", one reads online. "It is the best Netflix series of 2024, truly a must watch", someone else adds. And again: "I cried at the last episode. But I was confused for most of the time: I thought it was a horror, but in the end, it is completely different. I highly recommend it". What do you think? Will this be the series you will watch this weekend on Netflix?
