There is only one actor who appeared in both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and the Rings of Power

With the Middle Earth cinematic hexalogy composed of the trilogies of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, both directed by Peter Jackson, we have seen a huge number of characters who have shaped the imaginary world born from the pen of J.R.R. Tolkien alternate on the big screen. In recent years, these have also been joined by the characters from the series The Rings of Power, which, although not officially linked to the films, shares some particularly important ones such as Galadriel, Elrond, or Sauron himself. However, there is only one actor who can boast of having taken part in all three projects.

We are talking about Jed Brophy, a New Zealand actor born in 1963 who fans will remember mainly in the role of Nori in The Hobbit trilogy, but who has nevertheless made other unsuspected appearances both in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and in the ambitious Amazon series. Brophy appears in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring as a hobbit at Bilbo's birthday party, while in the extended version of the film he also plays one of the elves that Frodo and Sam see going to the Grey Havens. However, his most important role in the film remains that of one of the nine Nazgûl who chases Frodo between Bree and Rivendell.

In The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Brophy instead played a Rohirrim soldier and two different orcs with names and lines well known to fans. The first was Snaga, the orc who during the Uruk-hai march suggests eating Merry and Pippin, who must be delivered to Saruman unharmed, and who will then be beheaded. The second is Sharku, the orc who leads the patrol of Wargs who attacked the Rohirrim on the road to Minas Tirith and who, now dying, will be questioned by Gimli and Legolas about the fate of Aragorn who fell a few moments before into a ravine.

In The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Brophy instead played the orc who helps the Witch-king of Angmar in dressing before he takes part in the battle of the Pelennor Fields, while in the extended version of the film, he is also the orc who announces the surprise inspection of Sauron's army in the lands of Mordor when Frodo and Sam hide under false pretenses. The actor was also among the Elves who joined Arwen on her journey to the Grey Havens and among the Gondorian soldiers who fought during the siege of Gondor. Last but not least, his son Sadwyn also appears in the film as the very young Eldarion, the future son of Arwen and Aragorn. But Jed Brophy's skills do not stop there. The actor in fact helped the production train the horses used for the scenes of the film.

Jed Brophy would later return in the Hobbit trilogy in the role of Nori, one of the 13 dwarves of Thorin Oakenshield's Company, while in more recent times he returned to play a part in Middle-earth thanks to his unexpected involvement in The Rings of Power. Here the actor returned to play various orcs among which Vrath stands out, who appeared for the first time in the first season of the series in the episode entitled “Adar” and is easily recognizable among the others thanks to his blue eyes and his peculiar jagged helmet. After the death of Magrot, Vrath becomes the commander in charge of the orcs of Adar. However, he will perish at the hands of the elf Arondir after he attacks and captures the young Theo.

In short, Jed Brophy seems to be an essential presence for every film and television project dedicated to Middle-earth, and we are practically certain that he will continue to be part of it both in the third season of The Rings of Power and in the new films announced by Warner Bros. Pictures.
