This narrative choice has disappointed fans of the famous anime, to say the least!

One of the biggest flaws of Dragon Ball, despite its immense popularity, is the management of plot twists, often considered unsatisfactory by fans. The creative approach of Akira Toriyama, known for not planning the evolution of the storylines in advance, has led to the creation of a legendary work, but also to narrative choices that have disappointed fans. Beloved characters have been sidelined, promising plots abandoned, and many narrative arcs have not received a proper conclusion. This problem persists even in Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Super, where crucial moments have been removed as part of their emotional impact or meaning.
An emblematic example is the treatment reserved for Gohan in the Majin Buu Saga. Initially, Gohan seems destined to take over Goku's legacy as the protagonist, and the first stages of the story, centered on his adventures as the Great Saiyaman and his relationship with Videl, offer several fun and engaging moments. However, the situation worsens when Goku, temporarily returned to Earth, returns to occupy center stage. After Gohan's defeat against Fat Buu, the character trains with the Supreme Kaioshin, obtaining the form of Ultimate Gohan and appearing ready to become the ultimate hero. With Goku in the afterlife, Vegeta dead and Gotenks absorbed, everything suggests that Gohan will be the protagonist of the final confrontation against Super Buu.
Instead, Gohan fails once again. He fails to defeat Super Buu, lets him become even more powerful, and even ends up being absorbed: even the last attempt at redemption, the possibility of fusing with a resurrected Goku, is thwarted. The result is that this one returns to being the only true hero of the saga, while Vegeta consolidates his role as eternal rival and ally. This betrayal of expectations not only diminished Gohan's character but also left fans with a bitter taste in their mouths: Gohan's last significant appearance in Dragon Ball Z sees him act completely out of character, squandering the potential of a character who could have taken the series in new directions.
Among the other most disappointing twists in Dragon Ball, the ending of the Future Trunks Saga stands out. After a long battle against Zamasu and Goku Black, Goku, Vegeta, and Trunks finally seem to have achieved a satisfying victory. However, in a matter of moments, the entire saga and even the events related to the Cell Saga in Dragon Ball Z are emptied of meaning with the introduction of Infinite Zamasu and Future Zeno.
Zamasu merges with Trunks' timeline, gaining the potential to expand into all universes; at that point, Goku calls upon Future Zeno for help, who resolves the situation by completely erasing the entire timeline. This epilogue is a total defeat for the heroes, but especially for Future Trunks: his story, among the most beloved and well-constructed of Dragon Ball Z, ends with the destruction of everything he fought for, depriving him of an ending that honors his sacrifices and leaving fans with a sense of emptiness and frustration.
