The announcement of the first clapperboard came directly from director Scott Derrickson through his social media channels. The image posted by the director on Twitter/X, among other things, shows the official logo of the film applied to the back of a classic set chair. To date, details on the plot are still missing, but it seems that the basic idea came from Joe Hill, author of the self-contained story that inspired the first film, as well as the son of the great Stephen King.
Derrickson and his collaborator C. Robert Cargill wrote the screenplay, while Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and Miguel Mora will return from the cast of the first film, while Demià n Bichir stands out among new names. The Black Phone 2 (we don't know if this will be the official title in the end) will be produced by Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions, with the former distributing it in US theaters starting October 17, 2025.
The Black Phone | The First Film
Scott Derrickson's return to the horror genre was co-written with his long-time collaborator C. Robert Cargill and was based on a story by Joe Hill (Stephen King's son). The companies that produced were Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions. The cast included Jeremy Davis, Ethan Hawke, Madeleine McGraw, Mason Thames, and James Ransone.
PLOT: The phone is dead. And it's ringing. Finney Shaw, a shy but intelligent 13-year-old boy, is kidnapped by a sadistic killer who locks him in a soundproof basement where screams are of little use. When a disconnected phone starts ringing on the wall, Finney discovers he can hear the voices of the killer's previous victims. And they are determined to make sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney. The Black Phone was released on June 24, 2022, and grossed $161 million at the Worldwide Box Office.
