Player 456 returns to the contestants to try to stop the macabre games that have conquered the world from South Korea. Let the new games begin, Netflix proclaims in the caption of the first official trailer of Squid Game 2. After having shown a small preview during Lucca Comics and Games, here is the real promo for the new episodes of the series that has conquered the rest of the world and several records from South Korea. In Squid Game 2 we find player 456 Seong Gi-hun again, who survived the events of the first season but is now determined to put an end to everything.
He manages to sign up for a new edition of the games, but this time he immediately reveals to all the other contestants that they will face a terrible death if they were to lose at Red Light, Green Light, or one of the other macabre perversions. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who became the first Asian filmmaker to win an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series with the first season of Squid Game, is back to direct this second season, also taking on the role of screenwriter and producer.
During the latest Lucca Comics, he revealed several details about the event series, including why South Korea is so attentive and interested in stories about social inequality and poverty. Returning from the first season of Squid Game, we will see Lee Jung-Jae as Seong Gi-hun, Lee Byung-hun as Front Man, Wi Ha-jun as Hwang Jun-ho, and Gong Yoo as the recruiter of the new edition of the game, whose name remains unknown. New cast members include Yim Si-wan (Boyhood), Kang Ha-neul (Love Reset), Park Sung-hoon (Hail to Hell), Yang Dong-Geun (I am Sam), Park Gyu-young (Sweet Home, The Devil Judge).
Jo Yu-ri (former member of the South Korean-Japanese group Iz*One), Kang Ae-sim (Move to Heaven), Lee David (The Fortress), Lee Jin-uk (Sweet Home), Choi Seung-hyun (Tazza: The Hidden Card), Roh Jae-won (Missing Yoon), and Won Ji-an (DP). The official synopsis reads: Three years after winning the Squid Game, player 456 gives up on traveling to the United States and returns with a new purpose. Gi-hun dives into the mysterious survival game again, starting another deadly challenge with new contestants gathered to win the 45.6 billion prize. Squid Game 2 will be coming to Netflix on December 26, 2024.
