Lindsay Lohan is back on Netflix with a new Christmas rom-com: Our Little Secret, directed by Stephen Herek, which has already conquered the platform's audience. The film tells the story of Avery (Lohan) and Logan (Ian Harding), two ex-boyfriends forced to spend the Christmas holidays together after discovering that their current partners, Cam (Jon Rudnitsky) and Cassie (Katie Baker), are siblings. The secret of their past relationship thus becomes the linchpin of the narrative, triggering a series of events that culminate in a surprising and touching ending.
As we said, Avery and Logan unexpectedly meet at Cam and Cassie's family Christmas party. After the initial shock, they decide not to reveal to anyone that they met in the past and had a relationship. However, Cam and Cassie's younger brother Callum (Jake Brennan) discovers their secret by eavesdropping on a conversation and blackmails them, demanding various favors in exchange for silence. Despite Avery and Logan's best efforts to keep the secret, the situation spirals out of control when Logan's grandmother, unaware of the arrangement, recognizes Avery and reveals their past to everyone.
The discovery shocks Cassie and throws the Christmas dinner into disarray. However, that's not the only secret that comes to light: Logan discovers that Cassie's father Leonard (Dan Bucatinsky) is having an affair with Margaret (Judy Reyes), the wife of Stan (Tim Meadows), a family friend. Cam and Cassie's mother Erica (Kristin Chenoweth) admits that she knows about the affair and is okay with it, as it makes her husband happier and less present. This moment of intertwined chaos becomes a turning point for all the characters.
Stan's daughter Sophie (Ash Santos) feels betrayed by her mother, while Cam is having to deal not only with the truth about Avery and Logan but also with her disappointment over her father's behavior. Cassie is particularly hurt, not so much by Logan's past relationship, but by the discovery that her mother has known all along about her husband's infidelity. Meanwhile, Callum enjoys the show, calling what they are having the best Christmas ever. However, Avery manages to leverage his sense of guilt, revealing that she knows that he too is hiding a secret: Callum is in fact having an affair with Sophie, and Avery uses this to push him to reflect on his actions.
Avery and Logan find themselves confronting the reasons for their separation. Years ago, Avery had taken a job in London after her mother's death, driven by the need to get away from the places that reminded her of her pain. Logan, unable to accept the distance, had tried to hold her back with an impromptu marriage proposal, which Avery had interpreted as a lack of support. This led to their breakup and a decade of silence. During the holidays, however, their complicity resurfaces, pushing them to reflect on their respective mistakes and to recognize that their current partners are not the right ones.
Cam proves superficial and is still attracted to Sophie, while Cassie appears too immature for Logan. Their love survives time and difficulties, leading them to decide to give their relationship a second chance. The film ends with a time jump of one year: Avery and Logan are engaged and live together in Avery's family home, purchased thanks to Logan's intervention. The last scene shows their wedding, a symbol of love rediscovered and finally mature. The ending also reserves a turning point for Erica and Leonard. After the discovery of their respective extramarital affairs, Erica finally finds happiness with Stan, while Leonard continues his relationship with Margaret.
Erica appears profoundly changed: more serene and kind, free from the constraints of an unhappy marriage. This evolution makes the ending even sweeter, suggesting that honesty, however painful, can lead to a more authentic and fulfilling life. Our Little Secret ends with a message of hope and reconciliation. Through chaos and revelations, the characters find the courage to face the truth and start over, proving that, even in the most difficult moments, love and honesty can offer new opportunities. Avery and Logan, along with Erica and Stan, get their happy ending, making Christmas a time of rebirth for everyone.
