The official title of the eighth installment in the Mission: Impossible saga, starring the inimitable Tom Cruise, has finally been announced. The film will be titled The Final Reckoning and is a direct sequel to Dead Reckoning, released in 2023, which was initially conceived as the first part of a single story divided into two. The film is scheduled for release on May 23, 2025. Originally planned for 2022, the project has suffered several delays due to the pandemic and the SAG-AFTRA actors' strike.

Tom Cruise revealed the title and a promotional poster on Monday morning, accompanying the announcement with the phrase "Every choice led to this." Paramount also unveiled the first official teaser trailer. In the previous film, Cruise's character, Ethan Hunt, faced a fearsome artificial intelligence program called "The Entity", capable of anticipating his moves and potentially devastating if it falls into the wrong hands. After a thrilling finale with a train crash narrowly avoided, Ethan discovers that "The Entity" is hiding aboard an old Russian submarine. However, Gabriel (played by Esai Morales), an antagonist from Ethan's past, is also hot on his trail.

The cast of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning sees the return of many familiar faces from the franchise, including Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Henry Czerny, Greg Tarzan Davis, Mariela Garriga, and Indira Varma. In addition, new actors will join the saga, such as Hannah Waddingham, Janet McTeer, Holt McCallany, Katy O'Brian, Nick Offerman, and Tramell Tillman.

Christopher McQuarrie, who directed Rogue Nation, Fallout, and Dead Reckoning, returns to direct. McQuarrie, who co-wrote the screenplay with Bruce Geller and Erik Jendresen, is a longtime collaborator of Cruise, having worked with him on the Jack Reacher films and Top Gun: Maverick. Cruise and McQuarrie are among the producers, along with Chris Brock, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Tommy Gormley, Don Granger, and Susan Novick, with Gina Hallas as co-producer.
