Imagine waking up in the morning and knowing that among your fans there is none other than Christopher Nolan. The director of Interstellar, Dunkirk, and the more recent and acclaimed Oppenheimer has praised in no uncertain terms the work of one of his most illustrious colleagues, the protagonist on the big screen at the beginning of 2024. We are talking about Denis Villeneuve and Dune - Part 2, the second chapter of the adaptations based on the cycle of novels by Frank Herbert and with Paul Atreides played by Timothée Chalamet at the center of the story.

After winning six Oscars with Dune in 2022, Villeneuve is preparing to have his say at the next edition of the Oscars thanks to a sequel that also turned out to be a box office hit: it collected 714 million dollars at the global box office, compared to the 407 million of the first (released in theaters in 2021, still pandemic-related). Christopher Nolan – in the meantime busy putting together a super cast for his next film – doesn't particularly care about all this. During a panel of the DGA union (which represents directors), he admitted that he loved Dune – Part 2, describing it as «a miraculous work of adaptation».

Nolan added: «The second part is an incredible conclusion to the story. What a remarkable work!» But he didn't stop there. Nolan has in fact ventured a comparison that will make fans of the two franchises discuss: «If Dune were Star Wars, this sequel would be The Empire Strikes Back, which is my favorite. I think it's a great expansion of everything that was introduced in the first one. What struck me was the sense of immersion in that world. It's a film with so many unique images, things that have never been seen before in a film like this, I was struck by the details".

A great endorsement for Denis Villeneuve. The director seems to have already returned to work to take care of the third chapter of the saga, which in any case will be the last for him and of which he said "it will not be a trilogy". For lovers of the sci-fi novel cycle, we remind you that the first episodes of the prequel series Dune: Prophecy are already available exclusively for Italy on Sky and streaming only on Now.
