While filming Mission: Impossible 8, Tom Cruise is preparing another incredible stunt, but this time at the Paris 2024 Olympics. According to TMZ, the actor, known for his stunts where he does not use stunt doubles, will be part of the closing ceremony, passing the torch in preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Cruise will apparently rappel down from the top of the Stade de France, the stadium where the ceremony will take place, and carry the Olympic flag. The broadcast will then cut to a recording of Cruise jumping from a plane to plant the flag at the Hollywood symbol.

The 2024 Olympics closing ceremony takes place at 4 pm on Sunday, August 11. Little is known about the story of Mission: Impossible 8, other than that it will follow the events of Mission: Impossible - Reckoning, which recently lost the "Part 1" from its title and grossed $567 million worldwide. In other words, we'll see Ethan Hunt and his colleagues fighting Gabriel (Esai Morales) and trying to find the Sevastopol, the submarine where the fearsome artificial intelligence Entity's server is located.

Mission: Impossible 8 will be released on May 23, 2025, with a title yet to be defined. Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell, Esai Morales, and Ving Rhames star in Mission: Impossible - Reckoning Part 1, directed and written by Christopher McQuarrie. McQuarrie became Cruise's greatest collaborator, directing both Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and Mission: Impossible - Fallout and helping to write Top Gun: Maverick. Now, they have reunited on Mission: Impossible - Reckoning and the sequel 2025.

Mission: Impossible 8 will feature even more stars: Nick Offerman, Holt McCallany, Katy O'Brian, Hannah Waddingham, Janet McTeer, and Rolf Saxon, who only appeared in the first film in the franchise and will return for the eighth, will join the cast. Filmed on sets, the films are seen as a possible conclusion to the Paramount Pictures saga. They have undergone several delays, either due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic or the long and complex filming process, which even included the use of a real submarine. As a result, Reckoning has become one of the most expensive feature films in history, and it's entirely possible that Mission: Impossible 8 will surpass its price tag.
