Netflix is about to update the Terminator franchise with the upcoming release of the Terminator Zero anime, scheduled for August 29th. This new chapter represents a significant turning point, being the first set in Japan and the first animated adaptation of the famous science fiction saga. The streaming platform recently revealed the voice cast, including some very important names who will bring the characters of this exciting adventure to life.
Terminator Zero: plot and cast of the new Netflix anime
Among the protagonists of Terminator Zero stands out Timothy Olyphant, previously announced as the voice of a Terminator. Alongside him, Rosario Dawson, known for her roles in Ahsoka and Common Ground, will lend her voice to Kokoro, an advanced Japanese artificial intelligence, destined to be the answer to Skynet. André Holland, famous for his performances in Moonlight and The Knick, will play Malcolm Lee, the scientist who created Kokoro. Sonoya Mizuno, known for House of the Dragon and Crazy Rich Asians, will play Eiko, a character from a post-Judgment Day 2022 future, tasked with preventing Malcolm from launching Kokoro. Ann Dowd, known for The Handmaid's Tale and MASS, will bring to life The Prophet, another key character in this adventure.
Created and produced by Mattson Tomlin (Project Power, The Batman II) for Skydance Animation and Production IG, Terminator Zero will be directed by Masashi Kudo and will consist of eight episodes. The series promises to offer an intense and innovative experience, combining the classic elements of the franchise with new narratives. The plot of Terminator Zero is divided between the past and the future. In 2022, a devastating war between humans and machines has been raging for decades. In 1997, Skynet gained self-awareness and began its war against humanity. In this context, a soldier is sent back in time to change the course of history. His goal is to protect Malcolm Lee, who is developing a new artificial intelligence system intended to compete with Skynet. However, the mission becomes even more complex when a relentless assassin from the future arrives to forever alter the fate of Malcolm's children.
